WHEN AN ALIPHATIC MONOCARBOXYLIC ACID, SUCH AS OLEIC ACID, IS REACTED WITH HYDRAZOIC ACID IN THE PRESENCE OF A STRONG MINERAL ACID AT A TEMPERATURE UP TO 45*C., THE CARBOXYL GROUP IS CONVERTED TO AN AMINE GROUP AND A SECOND MOLECULE OF HYDRAZOIC ACID REACTS WITH THE DOUBLE BOND TO SPLIT THE ALIPHATIC GROUP INTO FRAGMENTS, ONE PRODUCT OF WHICH MAY BE, IF THE STARTING MATERIAL WERE OLEIC ACID, AN OCTYL DIAMINE.
