titleOfInvention Method of purifying terephthalic acid
abstract TEREPHTHALIC ACID WHICH HAS BEEN OBTAINED BY THE LIQUID PHASE OXIDATION OF P-BIS(LOWER ALKYL) BENZENES ESPECIALLY XYLENE, IS PURIFIED BY HEATING WITH AT LEAST ONE ALIPHATIC KETONE CONTAINING FROM 3 TO 8 CARBON ATOMS IN THE LIQUID PHASE AT SUPERATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE AND AT A TEMPERATURE ABOVE THE NORMAL BOILING POINT OF THE MIXTURE WHEREBY A SOLUTION OF TEREPHTHALIC ACID IN THE LIQUID KETONE IS PRODUCED AND COOLING THE SOLUTION THUS PRODUCED TO EFFECT CRYSTALLIZATION OF PURIFIED TEREPHTHALIC ACID CRYSTALS.
