abstract A method is provided for plugging permeable materials, preferably permeable earthen materials. An aqueous solution containing dispersed therein an organic material having an acid reaction is reacted with an acidic aqueous solution containing multivalent metal cations dispersed therein which form a precipitate with the organic material, in situ in the permeable material to form a precipitate, thus reducing the permeability of the material.
