A GELABLE, NON-TOXIC AND ODORLESS COMPOSITION FOR CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS WHICH COMPRISES (1) 1-90% BY WEIGHT OF METAL METHACRYLATES OR ACRYLATES, SUCH AS MAGNESIUM METHACRYATE, (2) 3-90% BY WEIGHT OF WATER-SOLBULE ETHENOID MONOMERS, SUCH AS ACRYLAMIDE AND A COMPOUND OF CH2=C(-R)-COO-R'' (R IS-H OR -CH3, AND R'' IS AN ALKYL HAVING -OH OR -NH2), AND (3) 1-30% BY WEIGHT OF WATER-SOLUBLE DIVINYL MONOMERS SUCH AS GLYCEROLIDIACRYLATE. A PROCESS FOR STABILIZING SUCH CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS AS CEMENT AND SOIL, WHEREIN AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF THE COMPOSITION AND A REDOX CATALYST IS ADDED THERETO, AND HIGH STRENGTH AND SUPERIOR IMPREMEABILITY TO WATER CAN BE PROVIDED. THE PERIOD FOR GELATION MAY BE CONTROLLED AS DESIRED. IN A RAPID STABILIZATION PROCESS FOR CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS ADDING A GELABLE COMPOSITION COMPRISING (1) WATERSOLUBLE VINYL MONOMERS AND (2) WATER-SOLUBLE DIVINYL MONOMERS AND A REDOX CATALYST THERETO, THE METHOD WHEREIN B-DIKETONE IS USED AS A COMPONENT OF THE REDOX WITH OR WITHOUT METALLIC IONS. SODIUM FORMALDEHYDE SULFOXYLATE, A REDUCING SUGAR, A WATE-SOLUBLE AMINE CAN ALSO BE USED AS SAID COMPONENT. |
