abstract THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A SULFOBENZOYL HYDRAZIDE OF THE FORMULA X-O3S-(PHENYLENE)-CO-NH-NH2 WHEREIN THE SO2X GROUP IS IN THE POSITION SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF META AND PARA AND X IS SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF HYDROGEN, A METAL CATION AND AN ORGANIC BASE. THE SULFOBENZOYL HYDRAZIDES OF THE INVENTION ARE USEFUL IN THE PREPARATION OF HYDRAZONES OF ALDEHYDES, KETONES OR QUINONES, WHICH HYDRAZONES IN THE FORM OF THEIR ALKALI METAL SALTS ARE VERY SOLUBLE IN WATER.
