THE METHOD OF COATING AN ALUMINUM OR ALUMINUM ALLOY SURFACE WITH A RESIN WHEREIN THE SURFACE IS ANODICALLY ETCHED IN A HALIDE SOLUTION TO PROFICE MINUTE SURFACE IRREGULARITIES AND CAVITIES TO ADEQUATELY ANCHOR THE RESIN TO BE APPLIED. THE ETCHED SURFACE MAY BE OXIDIZED TO PROVIDE GREATER ANCHORAGE AND MAY ALSO BE HEAT TREATED WITH HOT WATER OR STEAM EITHER PRIOR OR SUBSEQUENT TO RESIN COATING TO FURTHER ENHANCE THE RESIN BONDAGE AND SERVICE.
