abstract | A PROCESS FOR SEPARATING A NON-AROMATIC HYDROCARBON FRACTION AND AN AROMATIC HYDROCARBON FRACTION FROM A MIXTURE THEREOF WHEREIN THE MIXTURE IS CONTACTED AT A TEMPERATURE BETWEEN ABOUT 200*F AND ABOUT 400*F WITH AN EXTRACTION SOLVE OF A HIGHLY POPLAR ORGANIC LIQUID HAVING 10-50 WEIGHT PRECENT OF SOLUBLE METAL SALT DISSOLVED THEREIN. PREFERABLY A SALT OF LITHIUM, BERYLLIUM OR MAGNESIUM, WHEREBY THE AROMATIC HYDROCARBON FRACTION IS EXTRACTED FROM THE MIXTURE. THE EXTRACTION SOLVENT IS COOLED TO A TEMPERATURE BELOW ABOUT 150*F., AT WHICH TEMPERATURE A SUBSTANTIAL PORTION OF THE AROMATIC HYDROCARBON FRACTION IS INSOLUBLE THEREIN. ANY REMAINING AROMATIC HYDROCARBON FRACTION MAY BE RECOVERED FROM THE EXTRACTION SOLVENT BY CONTACTING THE EXTRACTION SOLVENT WITH A NON-AROMATIC HYDROCARBON SOLVENT AT A TEMPRATURE NO GREATER THAN 150*F., AT WHICH TEMPERATURE THE AROMATIC HYDROCARBON FRACTRION IS SELECTIVELY EXTRACTED FROM THE EXTRACTION SOLVENT. |
