abstract | THIS INVENTION RELATES, TO A CELLULAR FOAM LAMINATE HAVING A NONCELLULAR SURFACE LAYER. THE LAMINATE IS PREPARED BY INCORPORATING IN A FOAMABLE RESINOUS COMPOSITION A THERMODECOMPOSABLE CHEMICAL BLOWING AGENT AND AN ACCELERATOR WHICH IS SUBSTANTIALLY INSOLUBLE IN THE RESINOUS COMPOSITION AND WHICH LOWER THE TEMPERATURE AT WHICH THE BLOWING AGENT DECOMPOSES. THE RESINOUS COMPOSITION IS THEN FORMED INTO A SOLID LAYER AND AN INHIBITOR IS APPLIED UNIFORMLY OVER THE SURFACE. THE INHIBITOR IS A COMPOUND WHICH IS AT LEAST PARIALLY SOLUBLE IN THE FOAMABLE RESINOUS COMPOSITION AND WILL COMBINE WITH THE ACCELERATOR TO PREVENT IT FROM LOWERING THE DECOMPOSITION TEMPERATURE OF THE BLOWING AGENT. THE PENETRATION OF THE INHIBITOR IS CONTROLLED SO THAT IT ONLY PENETRATES IN EFFECTIVE CONCENTRATION TO THE THICKNESS DESIRED FOR THE WEAR LAYER. THE COMPOSITION IS THEN CAREFULLY HEATED TO DECOMPOSE THE BLOWING AGENT IN CONTACT WITH THE ACCELERATOR WITHOUT DECOMPOSING THE BLOWING AGENT IN THE AREA OF INHIBITOR PENETRATION. |
