abstract An infusion pump system is operable to deliver blood to a patient from a first fluid reservoir via a first pump while mixing in a calcium-containing solution from a second fluid reservoir via a second pump. The controller precisely controls the amount of calcium-containing solution that is administered to the patient to be mixed with the blood infusate in the patient's bloodstream according to a preset blood-calcium ratio, thereby preventing citrate intoxication during large blood transfusions.
