abstract A system and method for testing a cleaning medium, such as toilet paper, after wiping a perineum is disclosed. The system includes an optical sensor configured to scan the cleaning medium, a user interface, an output device, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive sensor input from the optical sensor, determine the presence of a biological substance, such as feces, on the cleaning medium based on the sensor input, generate a data signal based on the presence of the biological substance, and transmit the data signal to the output device. The system may determine if the cleaning medium is soiled or unsoiled, and may also detect the presence of blood and other types of biological material.
