abstract One aspect of the invention provides a system including: a camera, one or more light sources, and a controller. The controller is programmed to: receive an image of one or more plants from the camera; apply a segmentation algorithm to produce a binary image from the image; apply a thresholding algorithm to classify the one or more plants within the binary image as being in one or several stages of plant life; and control operation of the one or more light sources based on a classified stage of plant life.
