abstract Encapsulated scale inhibitors and methods of their use in subterranean formations are provided. In one embodiment, the methods comprise: providing a treatment fluid comprising a plurality of scale inhibitor particulates that comprise at least one scale inhibitor and a self-degrading encapsulating material that at least partially encapsulates the scale inhibitor; and introducing the treatment fluid into a well bore penetrating at least a portion of the subterranean formation.
