abstract According to one embodiment, a processing apparatus includes a memory and a processor. The processor is electrically coupled to the memory and is configured to acquire a first image of an object and a second image of the object, the first image including blur having a shape indicated by a symmetric first blur function, the second image including blur having a shape indicated by an asymmetric second blur function, calculate a distance to the object, based on correlation between the first blur function and the second blur function, and calculate reliability of the distance, based on a degree of the correlation.
