abstract Lignocellulosic materials can be press formed into mats using heated carbon dioxide and a phenol formaldehyde resin. Employing this method allows for a reduction or even elimination of the use of steam. The carbon dioxide, along with other gases may be recovered for recycle or disposal thus reducing the environmental footprint the process.
