abstract | A pre-analytic reagent is provided for liquefaction of a sputum sample and complete inactivation of one or more Mycobacteria, e.g., Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) suspected of being contained in the sputum sample at room temperature. The pre-analytic reagent may include one or more of each of: a chaotropic agent, a chelator, a reducing agent, a detergent, and acetic acid. The pre-analytic reagent can be configured to be effective to liquefy the sputum sample and completely inactivate the Mycobacteria suspected to be contained therein. |
