abstract A display device includes a reflective liquid crystal element, and the liquid crystal layer includes a first portion overlapping with a reflective electrode which reflects visible light and blocks ultraviolet light and a second portion overlapping with a region between two adjacent reflective electrodes. The first portion contains monomers and liquid crystal and the second portion contains a polymer obtained by polymerization of the monomers. In the second portion, the polymer constitutes the framework of a columnar partition wall which bonds the pair of electrodes to each other. The partition wall can be formed in a self-aligned manner because the reflective electrode is used as a light-blocking mask when light is emitted.
