The invention relates to an engine coolant composition, and a method of increasing the operational life of a coolant composition in an engine, wherein an isononanoic acid is incorporated into the generally glycol based coolant fluid in place of nitrous acid or its salt to reduce pitting corrosion on iron containing surfaces, and one or more hydroxybenzoic acids are incorporated. |
