abstract An optical device whose efficiency and luminance can be further highly improved is provided. The optical device includes carrier generation layer 11 that causes fluorescence to occur with incident light, plasmon excitation layer 12 that excites first surface plasmons with said fluorescence, carrier generation layer 11 being laminated on carrier generation layer 11, and exit layer 13 that extracts the first surface plasmons or light that occurs on an opposite surface of carrier generation layer 11 contact surface of plasmon excitation layer 12 to the outside. Carrier generation layer 11 contains metal particles that excite second surface plasmons with said incident light.
