abstract The present invention provides a tether ( 1 ) containing strands ( 2 ) comprising high strength fibers and a plurality of conductors ( 4 ), wherein each conductor ( 4 ) is separated from any other conductor along its length by at least one of said strands. The tether ( 1 ) can be used for transporting electrical power from a high altitude wind energy generator or a wave and tidal energy generator to a ground station.
