abstract A multi-stable liquid crystal display device is provided. The device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a first electrode, a second electrode and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate and the second substrate are disposed opposite to each other. The first electrode is disposed on the first substrate. The second electrode is disposed on the side of the second substrate facing the first substrate. At least one of the first electrode and the second electrode includes a grating electrode. The liquid crystal layer includes smectic liquid crystal molecules. Moreover, a method of driving the multi-stable liquid crystal display device is further provided in the present invention.
