abstract The invention relates to kits and methods for assessing the desirability of supplementing the diet of a human with reduced coenzyme Q (CoQH 2 ). The methods involve assessing occurrence in the human's genome of the NQO1*2 polymorphism of the NQO1 gene. Occurrence of a copy of the polymorphism indicates that the human can benefit from dietary supplementation with CoQH 2 , and occurrence of two copies (i.e., homozygosity) of the NQO1*2 polymorphism indicates that dietary supplementation with CoQH 2 can be especially desirable.
