abstract The device for the filtering of blood comprises a filter catheter with a filter at its distal end for filtering the blood branching downstream behind the heart valve into the arteries to supply the brain and the arms, wherein the filter may be pushed out of a catheter tube in the distal direction. The filter is tubular or designed to taper from the distal to the proximal end. The filter is designed to fit tightly, at least at its distal end section, against the ascending aorta in the area upstream of the arteries which supply the brain and the arms.
