abstract A multi-ply web of flexible material, such as paper and nonwoven material, includes a fluorescent whitening agent. The multi-ply web includes at least a first ply and a second ply which are interconnected in one or more adhesive interconnection zones by an adhesive composition including polyvinyl alcohol or a cellulose ether, and a cationic polymer. Also disclosed is a method for improving the bleed fastness of a fluorescent whitening agent in one or more adhesive interconnection zones of a multi-ply web of flexible material, such as paper and nonwoven material, which multi-ply web includes at least a first ply and a second ply which are interconnected in the adhesive zone(s) by an adhesive composition including polyvinyl alcohol or a cellulose ether. The method includes a step of incorporating a cationic polymer in the adhesive composition comprising polyvinyl alcohol or a cellulose ether.
