Unsaturated hydrocarbons are hydrogenated over catalysts which comprise copper and zinc and whose active composition, in unreduced form, consists essentially of from 10 to 95% by weight of copper oxide, calculated as copper(II) oxide (CuO), from 5 to 90% by weight of zinc oxide (ZnO), optionally from 0.1 to 50% by weight of zirconium dioxide (ZrO 2 ) and optionally from 0.1% by weight to 50% by weight of Al 2 O 3 , the proportions by weight adding up to 100% by weight. |
