abstract A lithium-ion battery comprises a cathode that includes an active cathode material. The active cathode material comprises a cathode mixture that includes a lithium cobaltate and a spinel type lithium manganate, wherein the lithium cobaltate and the lithium manganate are in a weight ratio of lithium cobaltate:lithium manganate between about 0.95:0.05 to about 0.55:0.45, and wherein a ratio of the mean particle diameter of the lithium cobaltate to the mean particle diameter of the lithium manganate is in a range of between about 1:0.35 and about 1:1.4.
