abstract | [Problems] To provide a mercury-free metal halide discharge lamp and a metal halide discharge lamp system for lighting the same of the dc lighting type with reduced inter-electrode color temperature difference. n [Means of Solving Problems] A metal halide discharge lamp includes a fire-resistant and light-transmitting hermetic vessel 1 , a pair of electrodes 2 A, 2 B sealed within the hermetic vessel 1 , and a discharge medium containing a halide and a rare gas and essentially not containing mercury and sealed within the hermetic vessel 1 , wherein a polarity of a lamp current flowing in the hermetic vessel is a single polarity not changing with time and the lamp is lighted so that a discharge arc of the discharge medium is corrected in a direction of a straight line connecting the electrodes using an acoustic resonance phenomenon. |
