abstract The invention is a composition comprising a) one or more organotitanates or zirconates having four ligands wherein the ligands are hydrocarbyl, optionally containing one or more functional groups having one or more heteroatoms selected from the group comprising oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur wherein two or more of the ligands may form a cyclic structure with the proviso that one of the ligands has an acidic moiety; one or more strong organic acids or a mixture thereof; b) one or more alkoxysilanes; c) optionally one or more high molecular weight resins; and d) a solvent which dissolves the components of the composition. This composition is referred to as a clear primer hereinafter. Preferably, the composition comprises both an organotitanate or zirconate and a strong acid.
