abstract High-solids solutions of solid rosin esters and lower alcohols can be obtained at rosin ester concentrations above the binary solubility of the rosin ester in the alcohol. Such solutions can be achieved by adding an additional modified rosin or by dissolving a small amount of the alcohol in the rosin ester. These solutions are useful as varnishes for use on humans and animals, particularly when ethanol is the alcohol. The varnish may optionally contain a therapeutic agent.
