abstract This invention provides an ink jet recording medium, which is small in coverage and, at the same time, can simultaneously realize high gloss and ink absorption. The ink jet recording medium is produced by coating a lower layer comprising a water-absorptive pigment, a latex, and boric acid or its salt and an upper layer comprising a submicron pigment and polyvinyl alcohol, and conducting casting.
