An electrolytic system for obtaining a disinfectant and/or sterilant is disclosed. The system comprises, among other components, at least one reaction cell, that contains a selectively permeable membrane placed between two electrodes that generate a charged field across the cell when dilute electrolytic solutions are passed through the cell. The cell is split between the electrodes by a cationic exchange membrane, which divides the reactor into an anodic chamber and a cathodic chamber. In the reaction cell, a diluted salt solution is fed separately to both chambers that electrically dissociates the same, in order that when the salt solution used is a sodium chloride solution, an aqueous solution of O 3 , O 2 , H 2 O 2 , HClO, Cl 2 , HCl, H + , H3O + , OH − and ClO is formed in the anodic chamber. The solution obtained in the anodic chamber being useful as a disinfectant. |
