abstract There are provided a novel carbazole compound and an organic light-emitting device having an optical output with extremely high efficiency and luminance and having extremely high durability. Specifically, there are provided a novel carbazole compound represented by the general formula (1): n n n n n n n n n n wherein Ar represents a substituted or unsubstituted bipyridine group, a substituted or unsubstituted terpyridine group, or a substituted or unsubstituted 4,5-diazafluorene group and is bonded to any of the eight available carbon atoms on the carbazole skeleton, and an organic light-emitting device using the carbazole compound.
