abstract The present invention relates to a method for classifying digital image data (ID) which solves the problem that images (I) having image areas with artificial text overlay have to be detected and classified in video signals in a reliable manner. Therefore, a robust detection in the presence of additive noise is proposed which can be invariant with respect to interlaced or progressive modes of video sequences.
