abstract The present invention relates to methods and compositions for enhancing the ability of the body to absorb ingested water and retain water in the tissues. Compositions and methods of the invention may be used for increasing athletic performance in the heat, as well as for preventing and treating dehydration. The compositions contain creatine for increasing intracellular water and glycerol, for increasing extracellular body water. Carbohydrate may also be included in order to increase absorption of orally-administered creatine.
