The invention is a dispersion essentially free of ionic surfactants comprising one or more copolymerizable monomers and a nonionic surfactant comprising alkylene oxide adduct of an alkyl alcohol, alkylbenzene alcohol or dialkylbenzene alcohol wherein the alkylene oxide includes one or more of ethylene oxide (EO) m and propylene oxide (PO) n , wherein (m+n)≦14. The invention also includes an aqueous polymer dispersion essentially free of ionic surfactants comprising polymer particles, water, and a nonionic surfactant comprising an alkylene oxide adduct of an alkyl alcohol, alkylbenzene alcohol or dialkylbenzene alcohol wherein the alkylene oxide includes one or more of ethylene oxide (EO) m and propylene oxide (PO) n , wherein (m+n)≦14, wherein the polymer particles are derived from one or more nonionic monomers and dispersed in the water and the nonionic surfactant is entrained in said polymer particles. |
