abstract An improved solution for purifying a medium using ultraviolet radiation is provided. The ultraviolet radiation is generated using at least one of an ultraviolet light emitting diode or an ultraviolet laser diode. In one embodiment, the diode(s) are disposed on a conduit that contains the medium and through which the medium moves. In this manner, operation of the system is made safer and the system can be incorporated into various new purification applications.
