abstract The present invention relates transgenic plants, progeny, seeds, and vegetatively reproducible structures of plants with reduced or elevated levels of ATP-phosphoribosyl transferase (ATP-PRT) expression or activity. Reduced or elevated levels of ATP-PRT have been found to alter protein or oil content in plants thereby modulating protein-to-oil ratios. Thus, the present invention also embraces a method for altering the protein or oil content of at least one tissue of a plant by modulating the expression or activity of ATP-PRT in the tissue.
