A phosphor characterized by being represented by the formula Eu 2-X Ln X M Y O 3(y+1) , wherein 0 ≦x <2, Y is 2 or 3, Ln represents at least one member selected from among Y, La, and Gd, and M represents at least one member selected from the group consisting of W and Mo. This phosphor is effectively excited by visible light or UV radiation having a wavelength of 220 to 550 nm for a desired light emission, particularly red light emission with a high efficiency. Therefore, the phosphor is advantageously employed in light-emitting devices such as a light-emitting screen, a light-emitting diode, and a fluorescent lamp. |
