Microcrystalline cellulose and method for making |
abstract |
The present application provides a method of converting a pulp having at least 7 percent by weight hemicelluose and a D. P. of from 200 to about 1100 to a composition comprising microcrystalline cellulose. In the process the pulp is contacted with a treating agent to hydrolyze the cellulose to microcrystalline cellulose which has a high hemicelluose level, a hemicelluose retention of at least 0.65, a brightness of at least 86 and an X-ray crystallinity index of at least 0.65. |
