abstract The invention generally relates to an integral elastomeric side panel that is suitable for use in or on a disposable absorbent garment. The integral elastomeric side panel is formed from a material that has unidirectional or multidirectional stretch features enabling it to stretch in the lateral, or longitudinal and lateral directions. A fastening device is associated with the integral elastomeric side panel. A disposable absorbent garment including the integral elastomeric side panel also is disclosed. The integral elastomeric side panel is formed from the unitary composite sheet that is prepared during assembly of the absorbent garment in a manner such that it does not require separate attachment to the garment. A rear waist edge of the absorbent garment, while in a relaxed state, can extend a length that is greater than the lateral dimension of the unitary composite sheet from which the garment is formed.
