abstract | This invention relates to methods of treating or preventing hemorrhagic and septic shock in an animal by administering inosine, guanosine, deoxyinosine, deoxyguanosine or a mixture thereof. Other purine nucleosides or analogs are described that have therapeutic use in treating or preventing shock. The invention also describes methods for increasing Na/K ATPase activity in erythrocytes or other cells in an animal having below normal activity of this enzyme by administering inosine, guanosine, deoxyinosine, deoxyguanosine or a mixture thereof. |
