abstract A heat transfer label for application to an item includes a heat transferable substrate having a translucent window area formed therein containing variable data. The heat transferable substrate is carried by a carrier web. The variable graphic component includes printed indicia on the translucent window area and is printed separate from and subsequent to the application of the substrate to the carrier. The variable graphic component is printed prior to application of the heat transfer label to the item and is visible through the window area when the label is applied to the object.
