A handheld electronic device includes a touch control input module and a processing device. The touch control input module includes a protective layer, a sensing layer, and a signal processing unit. The protective layer has outer and inner surfaces. The outer surface is defined with a plurality of contact regions, each of which is marked with a symbol. The sensing layer is in contact with the inner surface, and is responsive to contact of an object with the outer surface so as to generate an electrical output indicative of contact position of the object with the outer surface. The signal processing unit receives the electrical output, and generates a control output corresponding thereto. The processing device is responsive to the control output from the signal processing unit so as to perform an operation associated with the control output. |
