abstract Medical devices, medical device components, and methods of making the same. For example, one embodiment provides a method of making a reinforcing member adapted and configured for use in a medical device. The method includes providing one or more structural elements adapted and configured for creating the reinforcing member, the one or more structural elements including a surface having a portion with an initial surface area, and treating at least the portion of the surface of the one or more structural elements to provide a final surface area that is greater than the initial surface area. The one or more structural elements are used in creating the reinforcing member. The reinforcing member can then be incorporated into the structure of the medical device.
