abstract The present invention describes a method for recovery of aqueous samples or components thereof from polymer packaging materials, wherein the spilled aqueous sample has been absorbed by the packaging material to form a liquid swollen absorbent gel. The method comprises the steps of contacting the liquid swollen absorbent gel with a recovery fluid, wherein the recovery fluid has a higher osmotic pressure than the aqueous sample.
