abstract | A process of the present invention produces phthalaldehyde by allowing at least one compound selected from o-xylylene glycol and o-xylylene oxide to react with nitric acid. The amount of nitric acid is from about 0.2 to about 20 moles per mole of the at least one compound selected from o-xylylene glycol and o-xylylene oxide. The present invention can efficiently produce phthalaldehyde from easily available raw materials. |
