abstract A cell-containing, three-dimensional hydrogel microstructure that closely imitate a native cell environment. The three-dimensional hydrogel microstructures may be formed using photolithography either alone or in conjunction with the use of microfluidic networks. The resulting cell-containing, three-dimensional hydrogel microstructures can be used efficiently in various cell monitoring applications, including drug candidate screening systems.
