abstract An ophthalmic apparatus capable of guiding the visual axis of an eye to be examined, obtaining information about the visual axis, and performing measurement of optical characteristics of an eye such as wavefront aberration or laser refractive surgery with reference to the visual axis. The apparatus is provided with a target presenting optical system for guiding a visual axis of a patient's eye, and the presenting optical system has an optical axis of presentation and is provided with a first target and a second target located on the eye's side relative to the first target both on the optical axis of presentation, where the optical axis of presentation coincides with the visual axis when the eye fixates so as to make the first target coincide with the second target.
