abstract The invention provides a friction material containing a fibrous reinforcement, a friction modifier, and a binder as major components, which does not contain asbestos fibers but contains, as an organic friction modifier, para-, meta- and meta-para-type aramide resin dusts independently or as a mixture thereof. It is preferred to mix the para-type and m-type aramide resin dusts independently or as a mixture in an amount of 1 to 60% by volume based on the volume of the whole friction material.
