abstract The invention relates to a liquid-crystalline medium based on a mixture of polar compounds having negative dielectric anisotropy, which contains at least one compound of formula I n n n wherein n R 1 and R 2 are independently of each other an alkyl, alkoxy or alkenyl group with 1 to 12 C atoms, it also being possible for one or more CH 2 groups in these radicals to be replaced, in each case independently of one another, by —O—, —CH═CH—, —CO—, —OCO— or —COO— in such a manner that oxygen atoms are not linked directly to one another, n Z is OCH 2 or CH 2 O, and n m is 0 or 1.
