abstract | Disclosed herein is a composition of matter and method of use for wireline operations in the oil/gas industry. A glycerin water base composition having optional additives, was found to yield a tacky mixture stable to temperatures up to about 195° C. and as low as −50 C. When used as a wireline fluid, the inventive composition formed a seal from the oil or gas inside or outside the wellbore. The composition can be used in downhole (and serve as a lubricant) or above hole (and serve as a sealant) operations. When the composition contains corrosion inhibitors, it was found that wireline could be protected against corrosion from atmospheric conditions during storage for up to 30 days. Unlike other sealants/lubricants known in the industry, after use, the composition is easy to clean with water, wherein the water does not need further treatment prior to disposal. |
